01Fall Protection

• Common exposure points: rooftop RTU/condenser work, mezzanines, ductwork installed at height, ladder work for piping/hangers.
• 100% tie-off above 6 ft on roofs and open-sided platforms; use anchor points rated for the load, not just convenient beams.
• Scissor lifts/scaffolds: check guardrails and toe boards before duct/pipe hangers go up.
• Skylights and roof openings — barricade or cover before working near them; a “known” roof is still a fall hazard.

02Heat Stress

• Mechanical rooms, boiler rooms, and rooftop work often run hotter than ambient — factor that into hydration breaks.
• Brazing, welding, and soldering add radiant heat on top of outdoor temps — schedule extra breaks during these tasks.
• Watch crew members working in enclosed mechanical spaces with poor airflow; rotate people out, don’t wait for symptoms.
• Confined space heat plus PPE (respirators, coveralls) compounds risk — plan rest cycles in advance.

03PPE & Hand/Power Tool Safety

• Brazing/soldering: eye protection, gloves, and fire watch where required (hot work permit if applicable).
• Pipe threading machines, reciprocating saws, grinders: guards in place, no loose sleeves or gloves near rotating parts.
• Refrigerant handling: proper gloves and eye protection — frostbite risk from liquid refrigerant.
• Lockout/tagout on any equipment being tied into — verify isolation before cutting into existing systems.
